Visit to Porterville
A week ago, we went to Porterville to see Mikhailo's customer, Chris Richter. We met with Chris' accountant and went to see some buildings on Chris' farm near Piketberg.

When we were about to leave, Chris told us that we were invited for a braai, so we went to his home and had one of those excellent everything-braais, complete with boerewors, chops, chicken pieces, toasted cheese and onion sandwiches, potato salad, other salads and all sorts of condiments. |
Me, wearing the cap Ma bought me in advance for my birthday. |

Chris and Jeanette's exceedingly pretty daughter has a very complicated name. I should have written it down, because we know the family well enough by now for me to remember it!

Look carefully and note the interesting hairstyle of the ancestor at the bottom right!

The Richters' son was very disappointed when his male friend became totally fascinated by Barbie. | Computer skills can be handy in unexpected situations. I put a spreadsheet file onto the Richters' home computer and out of curiosity clicked on an interesting-looking desktop shortcut. It turned out that this was related to a birthday present that the little girl had received the day before, but to her great disappointment the program wouldn't work at all. I took the risk of uninstalling QuickTime and reinstalling it from the gift CD, and at once, Barbie's adventures came alive! |
Besides discussing business, Mikhailo chatted about the earthquake he had experienced in Austria, and Chris spoke about the earthquake over thirty years ago in Tulbagh, and said that earthquakes were actually very rare in the region now, with many years in between.
About two days later there was an earthquake in the area! |
