I decided to start putting some old photos onto this site too (considering that some of our friends who visit this site haven't seen us in decades anyway, so old news isn't necessarily old to everyone).
This portrait dates back a long time, possibly more than ten years. These were our first dogs, Lily and Sam. The photo was taken by our friend Penny (then a student, now married and living in Gauteng). | Sam was a very poetic person; Lily was very easy-going and not at all pensive. Mikhailo said when she died that the happiness had gone from our home. Of all the dogs we've had and lost, we miss her the most.
These dogs set a precedent: they were adopted, not bought. We decided thereafter always to adopt young or full-grown dogs rather than to buy puppies. It concerns us that there are so many lovely dogs out there that are neglected and badly treated.
