Huis Rus & Vrede may sound like the name of an old age home, but it was the name that the boys themselves wanted to call it.
My friend Carol is the (totally overworked and underpaid) housemother. I visit her at least once a week to treat her legs. I wanted to take some family pics for the house, but only a few of the boys were home when I had the camera.
Mikhailo took a look at this picture and said, "They look like a bunch of criminals!" Not far from wrong, actually; Desroy has over 50 charges against him, and if there's one more arrest, his suspended sentences will kick in and he'll be off to jail for a few decades... | |
| When I told the boys that more pictures won't cost me more (because this is a digital camera), everyone wanted individual portraits. I took many pictures besides the ones here. Eugene tried to breakdance in the lounge... | |
| Remember this dude? No? Look at the leg. This is what it looked like shortly after Christmas. | |
| Jerome (nickname Romeo) was Carol's official foster-child. (Past tense, because he turned 18 recently.) He occasionally brings earns some money, and unfortunately illness has prevented him from more consistent pursuits (he registered with a vocational college to study air-conditioning and welding). | |
